Great design does not always equate to great sales, if you have a really great product but lack the courage to make your business competitive by using properly practised systems, more economically achieved, you may never lift your sales efforts out of the swamp of sameness and make them more persuasive to the consumer.

Higher productivity enables businesses to increase sales.  Even if the market tightens, and wages rise, profits can be sustained and actually continue to grow if the salesman productivity is maintained at peak performance.
